This past Saturday, you may have been here, rocking out to the children’s band, Koo Koo Kanga Roo with us as part of our annual Friends of the Library Holiday Party. If you missed it, we have to say, you missed an amazingly fun time! The songs were hilariously fun for both kids and their grown-ups, the crowd was merry and bright, the floor held up, and everyone had a great time. Following the main performance, Santa arrived and spent lots of time with each child, visiting and giving them a book to keep. If you didn’t get a chance to come this year though, not to worry! The Friends host this extravaganza every year on the first Saturday in December. Mark your 2014 calendar today!
We have never had a crowd of this size (more than 400) inside our building for a program before, and while it was great fun and everyone made do by piling up in the aisles, it really highlighted for our families the need for a library programming space. For each event of this type, our fabulous youth services staff must move all furniture and toys to closets and cubbyholes around the building in order to make room. It’s a lot of extra work, and often still doesn’t offer enough space for the needs of our community. We hope with this in mind, you might consider being a part of our upcoming feasibility study, or think about how you might help make a difference in our capital campaign.
Speaking of making a difference, we do want to offer one more thank you to the Rice Lake Men’s Club for supporting this program with a cash donation, as well as thank the Friends of the Rice Lake Library. The Friends help put this program on every year by raising funds to bring performers, to purchase books for every child, to offer cookies and milk, and this year to offer a wonderful photo contest with a Kindle Fire as the prize. They are a great group that is always looking for new members and support from our community!
